CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu City’s Office of the Building Supervisor (OBO) reminds construction security officers to keep workers safe.
The building manager, architect Florente Catalan, said security guards have a huge role in the success of construction works around the city, as security must be paramount at the sites.
He lamented the recent accident that claimed the lives of two people on a construction site at South Road Properties due to a fall from a gondola.
Catalan said the incident could have been avoided if security guards had ensured the security of all equipment at the site.
OBO has already issued a cease and desist order on the construction site, and they have been tasked with implementing safety mitigation measures before this suspension is lifted.
The city government is already concerned about repeated construction accidents and incidents in recent months, as this is the third time an accident has occurred at a construction site this year.
‘Ang every construction site nga ingana ka dako aduna nay security guards. Kinahanglan buhaton nila ang ilang trabaho because the evil man sila. Trabahoon nila, issupervise gyod na, ”said Catalan.
Regarding equipment, Catalan reminds construction companies that the gondola should not be used to transport construction materials as it can only carry up to 500 kilograms.
He said the equipment should be used according to its functions to ensure the safety of construction workers.
The OBO hopes that the recent accidents will reaffirm the will of construction sites to avoid accidents at all costs.
He also warned that accidents would force constructions to stop for a period of time because the city government cannot risk the safety of workers.
