The police are increasing security measures for officers; always protect, serve | Crime News

Effective today, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office is extending a grace period for renewing an expired pistol license until April 20. Those planning to travel outside of Houston County during the designated grace period must renew the permit before traveling.

Dothan Police Chief Steve Parrish is also asking residents to call to file a non-emergency report and to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

“We have several officers who take non-emergency reports over the phone, and we’ve also set it up where a citizen can visit the police department’s website at www. dothanpd.org to file a non-emergency report, ”he said. “It’s just our way of making sure that we protect not only our citizens, but our employees as well.”

Parrish is committed to ensuring that crime rates do not rise during this difficult time.

“We are open for business and we are doing our job,” he said. “We cannot stay away from the threat of the virus; we have to do our job.

Parrish believes residents will notice an increase in officer attendance during this difficult time.

“It’s our job to protect and serve and answer calls and prevent crime is our job,” Parrish said. “Officers follow safety precautions, but we also do our job by following these precautions. “
