Washington State Department of Transportation Marine Safety Officers target boat launches in Hillarys, Mindarie and Two Rocks
A boat safety blitz is heading to Hillarys, Mindarie and the boat ramps north of Two Rocks this weekend.
The Ministry of Transportation’s pre-summer program heads north on December 11-12, a week after the dramatic incident at Mindarie Marina in which a motorboat sped up over a trailer and d ‘a utility, narrowing the missing boats.
The ministry’s shipping agents will target boats, trailers and equipment.
Waterway Safety Director Chris Mather said to avoid being turned back at the ramp, boat owners should inspect and maintain their boat and trailer, and also check that safety equipment is in place. good condition and accessible in case of emergency.
“The DoT produces a free BEST Check guide, which identifies things to do before each trip and lists items for an annual 45-point check,” Mather said.
“Boat owners can follow the guide and check before they hit the ramp.
“Officers will take this opportunity to encourage captains to download the free Deckee Boating app, which now includes up-to-date WA boating information essential for a safe day on the water.
“On the ramp, captains and passengers will also be able to take on the 30 Second Challenge, which tests preparation for an emergency response on board a ship. “
